One place where business owners often get stuck is fonts. I’m going to keep this blog post short and sweet, because I recommend keeping your fonts simple!
First, audit your platforms.
What platforms do you use to create your content? I mostly stay in 4: Canva, Instagram, WordPress, and MailChimp!
Once you make that list, keep your platforms in mind when choosing your fonts. Ideally, the fonts you choose will be available in each platform!
For me, my font suite in Canva includes two main fonts: Playfair Display and Lato. Both of those are also available on WordPress and MailChimp. So easy!
Second, find your style!
Find your style by noticing how fonts are used in life around you!
I love the look and feel of an editorial magazine, and I often gain inspiration from my magazine collection!
If you have a more minimal style, search for “minimal” accounts on Instagram and see what typefaces they are using! (Use this as inspiration; never copy exactly.)
Third, dive into Canva and try things.
Get on Canva and start trying things! Here are some guidelines.
- Choose one serif typeface and one sans serif typeface. If you need help distinguishing these, check out my latest Instagram post.
- Limit your fonts to 2 to start …. keep it simple to build brand recognition and now overwhelm yourself when you are creating your content!
- Balance a wider font with a thinner font to create dynamic content.
I promised you I would keep it simple!
P.S. Want more support?
If you still aren’t sure where to start, or if you want me to take a look at your current fonts, book a brand intensive with me! A brand intensive is a 45-minute touchpoint via Zoom where I can answer any and all questions you have about your brand. Nothing is off limits.
Many brand designers charge thousands for a logo and a color palette their client will have no idea how to use. The best part about our intensives is the price – our intensives are just $119. After our call, you will receive a personalized brand guide showing you exactly how to implement the steps we talked about.
